Harnessing my Inner Fat Kid: Paleo Challenge

I belong to an incredible gym here in Denver, Qi (That's pronounced "chee" for you guys who aren't hip with the traditional Chinese phrases). Through the gym I have discovered the joys of cross fit and circuit training and all sorts of ass-busting workouts. My guns have gotten defined, I can do real push ups. I'm fit. I am confident that if there were a zombie apocalypse, I'd do well for awhile.

But know what is a pain in the ass? Working out so hard and still having a belly! Enter: My weird relationship with food. Fuck food! I mean, no, food, I love you! But you make me so crazy. I can't quit you. I like you too much. I have had a long and probably not that uncommon struggle with food. That sort of self-indulgent psycho babble bullshit no one wants to read, but suffice to say I've gotten to the point where I pretty much know what works for me, what makes me feel good, and what makes me feel like shit. But since I have the temptation resistance skills of a toddler, I still manage to carry some extra weight. My six pack is in the fridge, if you know what I'm saying.

His six pack is also in the fridge.

Long story short, I've found eating the paleo way makes me feel awesome. But I am not very strict, because french fries are delicious and I am a boozehound.

(if you don't know what paleo is all about, I suggest you check this website out)

On August 1st I started a 30 day paleo challenge that is being put on by one of my favorite instructors at the gym, Maddie.  Doesn't she look like she could kick your ass? I'm so enamored. So the challenge is to stick to strict paleo eating for the entire month of August. No grains, no legumes, no dairy, no sugar. Lots of meat, veggies, fruits, eggs, nuts.

My hope is that I will lose some of this adorable (not) pudge I'm sporting on my stomach. Mama's got a hot little bikini she wants to wear.  And a big bachelorette party with a bunch of college friends on the East Coast in a couple weeks.
I'll keep you posted on how it goes, and will share some recipes and shit along the way. Maybe if it's successful I'll post some before and after pictures. MAYBE.
